Over 800 television professionals from over 50 countries convene annually in New York City for the International Emmy World Television Festival. The Festival takes place the weekend before the International Emmy® Awards and is the only place where one can watch all the nominated programs for the current year's awards and meet with creators of the nominated programs.
The Festival features screenings of the nominated programs, panels with the producers and creators as well as a weekend of panels on current trends, cocktails, luncheons and special events.
2008's Festival highlights included: a kick-off cocktail at Hearst Tower; a luncheon sponsored by Al Jazeera and Reed Midem, which included a keynote by Josh Rushing; the reading of the Sir Peter Ustinov Young Scriptwriting Award winner's script; and a closing cocktail sponsored by HBO.
In 2007, a strand of panels on Socially Responsible Television entitled, 'Telling Stories, Changing Minds', included expert speakers from the BBC, Egyptian TV, Globo TV, Nigerian TV, Population Media and Sesame Workshop.
