Al Jazeera English had teams on both sides of the border
during the 22 day Israel/Gaza war, which broke out on December 26, 2008 and

Pakistan-Terrors' Front LineSky News
United Kingdom
In March 2009, Sky news revealed that the Taliban were in
control of a large part of Pakistan; that a new group of British-born terror
suspects trained in Pakistan had returned to the UK, and that militants were
gaining increasing support in an area containing vital supply routes for British
and American troops in Afghanistan - all this in a country on the front line of
the war on terror. Chief Correspondent Stuart Ramsay became the first and only
journalist to enter the Swat Valley when it came under Taliban control. Images
of masked gunmen carrying out public floggings and summary executions fueled an
international diplomatic crisis. In an interview to Jeremy Thompson, anchoring
the channel's coverage from Islamabad, the country's President denied the
militants were in control, despite Sky's evidence. Sky News Correspondent Alex
Crawford negotiated exclusive access to the Taliban in the tribal region
bordering Afghanistan. She uncovered Taliban leaders the government could not
find and obtained film of street executions carried out by militant groups.

Jornal Nacional: Blackout
in BrazilTV Globo
Brazil
On the night of November 10, 2009, sixty-million Brazilians
in 18 states were left without electricity. Power was partially restored the
next morning. The first official explanation only came 24 hours later:
lightning had supposedly struck power lines. TV Globo investigated and
confronted contradictory versions, and exposed the fragile state of the power
grid and the effects on the population. As Brazil recovered from the
international financial crisis, the blackout brought to light how an
inefficient infrastructure can damage the country's economic ambitions.
CURRENT AFFAIRS: Tuesday
Report: Child AbductionTelevision Broadcasts Limited
Hong Kong, China
China has implemented a 'one child policy' for decades.
Except for peasants and some special cases, each family is allowed only one
child. But a traditional preference for male heirs remains ingrained. Some
families unable to sire a male heir seek to purchase one by illegal means. This
incurs child abduction. Abducted children are sold locally or even abroad, and
become the adopted children of other families. Older children who can't be sold
are forced into prostitution or hard labor.
Dispatches - Pakistan's
Taliban GenerationOctober Film
for Channel 4
United
Kingdom
Pakistan's Taliban Generation investigates how the war on
terror is creating a generation of child terrorists - children prepared to kill
both inside and outside Pakistan. With the recent attack in Lahore on the Sri
Lankan cricket team, last year's suicide bombing in Islamabad, and the assault
on Mumbai, Pakistan's radical Islamists are bringing violence to the major
cities of Pakistan and beyond. Pakistani journalist Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy
reveals how the Taliban are recruiting increasingly younger fighters for their
campaign. She meets a 14-year-old boy in Karachi who's desperate to become a
suicide bomber, and speaks to the elite unit of the anti-terror police squad,
who warn her that the Taliban are recruiting children from small madrassas in
deprived neighborhoods. She also interviews a Taliban commander responsible for
child recruitment, Qari Abdullah, who reveals that children as young as five
are now being used by the Taliban.

Telenoche: Glaciers, The First VetoArtear-Canal 13
Argentina
On November 10, 2008, Argentine president Cristina Fernández
de Kirchner vetoed a law that had been approved unanimously by both chambers of
senators and deputies a few weeks before. The law, known as Glaciers Law,
protected the gigantic mass of ice from possible mining exploitation. On the
veto text the president recognized that governors from the range provinces had
expressed their concern about law regulations, because the new environmental
protecting measures could affect millionaire investments. The law approval put
at risk the investment of more than 3,000 million dollars that Canadian
Enterprise Barrick Gold had invested to stay with the gold, silver, and other
minerals that the Andes Range keeps inside. Telenoche investigates the reasons
of a polemic decision that produced breaks inside the governing party and shows
the power of the multinationals that seeks gold, silver, and copper between
Argentina and Chile.
