INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY TO EXPAND ITS JURISDICTION TO RECOGNIZE US PRIMETIME PROGRAMS IN LANGUAGES OTHER THAN ENGLISH <\/span><\/h1>\n

NEW CATEGORY FOR US PRIMETIME PROGRAMMING TO BE ADDED TO THE 2014 INTERNATIONAL EMMY\u00ae AWARDS COMPETITION<\/span><\/h2>\n

\nNew York, November 13, 2013 –<\/strong> The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences today announced that it will create a new Emmy category for Non-English Language US Primetime Programs, to be added to the 2014 International Emmy\u00ae Awards competition. The change is pursuant to a rule adopted by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences earlier this year which extended jurisdiction in this area to the International Academy.<\/p>\n

“Recent demographic trends and electoral events have made clear that the United States is becoming a multilingual country, and these developments are increasingly reflected in the country’s television programs.” said International Academy President & CEO, Bruce L. Paisner. “The International Academy is looking forward to expanding its jurisdiction in a way that enables US primetime programs primarily not in English to compete for Emmys against each other.”<\/p>\n

The Category will be open to any primetime program produced by a US company or aired first in the US, in a language 50% or more other than English. Programs eligible include scripted dramas, comedies and telenovelas, as well as unscripted reality, variety and game shows that originally aired in primetime (6:00 PM- 2:00 AM). Rules & Regulations will be posted on December 12, 2013 at www.iemmys.tv.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
