2011 INTERNATIONAL DIGITAL EMMY® AWARDS NOMINEES ANNOUNCED

FIRST TIME EMMY® NOMINATIONS IN DIGITAL CATEGORIES FOR LEBANESE AND TURKISH PROGRAMS 

 

New York, February 22, 2011 – Nominees from 8 countries will compete for this year’s International Digital Emmy® Awards, it was announced today by The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The Emmys will be presented at a ceremony during MIPTV’s Opening night festivities on Monday, April 4, in Cannes.

There are 12 nominees in 3 categories, Digital Program: Children & Young People; Digital Program: Fiction and Digital Program: Non-Fiction. The full list of Nominees from Brazil, Canada, Lebanon, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Turkey and the United Kingdom follows this release.

This is the first time that Lebanese and Turkish programs are nominated in the Digital Categories. Shankaboot, an interactive web series produced by Beirut based production company Batoota films in conjunction with the BBC World Service Trust is nominated in the Fiction category. Tilki, an interactive program produced by Turkish production company Zorzanaat Production is nominated in the Children & Young People category.

TV Globo Brazil receives 2 first time nominations in the Digital categories with The Voices of Araguaia in Fiction and Globo Amazonia: The Geoglyphs in Non-Fiction.

Also, 2 previous Children & Young People Digital Emmy Winning programs Reservoir Hill (KHF Media/ Television New Zealand/NZ On Air) and Battlefront (Raw TV / Airlock for Channel 4) receive their second nomination this year while previous winning producer Company P from Sweden, receives its second nomination for Conspiracy for Good, co-produced by Heroes creator, Tim Kring with Nokia.

In addition to the presentation of the International Digital Emmy® Awards for the three categories, The International Academy will present a special award – the Pioneer Prize to Jon M. Chu, for creating The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers a global online dance phenomenon.
