International Academy Appoints Andre Sampaio as Ambassador to Portugal

New York, September 25, 2017 – The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences today announced that it has appointed a new Ambassador to Portugal, Andre Sampaio, Marketing and Media Director at the Portuguese multinational group Sonae, which manages a diversified portfolio of businesses in retail, financial services, media, telecommunications and technology.

“As a Semi-Final Judging Host, Andre has already significantly raised the profile of the Academy in Portugal and we look forward to having him further continue his outreach as our Ambassador.” said Bruce L. Paisner, President & CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Ambassadors are active members who volunteer on behalf of the Academy to act as representatives in their respective countries to raise the profile of the Academy globally, encourage local producers and broadcasters to submit entries into the International Emmy® Awards competition and seek new members.

Mr. Sampaio joins a group of six fellow Ambassadors, they are:

About Andre Sampaio

Andre Sampaio started his career in 2004 at Portugal Telecom International Investments with main duties including consultancy to the CEO and assisting PT International Investments’ Executive Board, strategy and business development, as well as institutional and media relations. From mid 2006 to 2008, and whilst completing his Masters in Economics, he collaborated, on a volunteer basis, with the United Nations Secretary General’s Special Envoy to Stop TB and the Alliance of Civilizations, having then joined BPI Investment Banking as associate at the Corporate Finance Division with several financial projects in Media. In 2012 he deepened his activities in the Media and Entertainment sector, with several projects undertaken including for Brazilian Broadcaster TV Globo. He joined SONAE – the leading retail group and advertiser in Portugal – in 2013 as SONAE MC International Division Director and he is currently the Head of Marketing and Media at SONAE FS.
