FIRST INTERNATIONAL EMMY® KIDS AWARDS NOMINEES ANNOUNCED

WINNERS TO RECEIVE AWARDS ON FEBRUARY 8, 2013 IN NEW YORK CITY

Cannes/MIPCOM, October 8, 2012 – Nominations for the first International Emmy Kids Awards were announced today by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences at a Press Conference at Mipcom. There are 24 nominees in 6 categories. The full list of Nominees follows this release. Winners will receive their Emmys at the inaugural International Emmy Kids Awards, on February 8, 2013 in New York City.

 

Nominations span 13 countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Norway, South Korea, Spain, Thailand, The Netherlands and The United Kingdom. The 2012 International Emmy competitions have three rounds of judging over a period of 6 months, with participation from jurors across 67 countries.

“One of the great success stories of international television in the last few years has been the explosion of high quality children’s programming around the globe.” said Bruce L. Paisner, President & CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. “In recognition of this, the International Academy is pleased to have created these new awards and we look forward to the first International Emmy Kids Awards ceremony, in February 2013.”

The International Emmy Kids Awards presenting partners are: Shaw Rocket Fund, Hasbro Studios, SVT/DRTV, TV Kids and Ernst & Young. The ceremony will take place at The Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers.

40th INTERNATIONAL EMMY® AWARDS NOMINEES ANNOUNCED

First in category for each

 

Cannes/MIPCOM, October 8, 2012 – Nominations for the 40th International Emmy Awards were announced today by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences at a Press Conference at Mipcom. There are 38 nominees in 9 categories. The full list of Nominees follows this release. Winners will receive their Emmys at the 40th International Emmy Awards Gala, on November 19, in New York City.

 

Nominations span 15 countries: Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, South Korea, Spain and The United Kingdom. The 2012 International Emmy competitions have three rounds of judging over a period of 6 months, with participation from jurors across 67 countries.

“At the first International Emmys in 1972, there were only 2 categories: Fiction and Non-Fiction. Today, we have 20 categories presented over 4 different awards ceremonies.” said Bruce L. Paisner, President & CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. “We congratulate the 2012 Nominees for their outstanding achievements as their programs and performances enter into television history and look forward to celebrating them at our Festival and 40th anniversary Gala, this November in New York.”

In celebration of the International Emmys 40th anniversary, the International Academy will present Special Founders Awards to television legends Alan Alda (M*A*S*H ) and Norman Lear (All In The Family ). Both Mr. Alda and Mr. Lear had programs in distribution in 1972, the year of the first International Emmy Awards Gala.

Also, as previously announced, the 2012 International Emmy Founders Award will be presented to producer/writer Ryan Murphy, Co-creator & Executive Producer of Glee while the 2012 International Emmy Directorate Award will be presented to Dr. Kim In-Kyu, President & CEO of KBS, (Korean Broadcasting System), also President of the ABU (Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union).

NHK (JAPAN) WINS INTERNATIONAL EMMY® FOR NEWS, CBC TELEVISION (CANADA) WINS INTERNATIONAL EMMY® FOR CURRENT AFFAIRS

First in category for each

New York, October 1, 2012 – The 2012 International Emmys for News & Current Affairs were presented tonight to NHK (Japan) and CBC Television (Canada). It was the first win for both organizations and countries in each category. The International Emmys were presented by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in conjunction with the US News Emmys during a ceremony which took place at Jazz at Lincoln Center, in New York City.
 
NHK’s Great East Japan Earthquake Emergency News won the News category.The story covers the largest earthquake in the country’s history that struck Japan on March 21, 2011 generating a devastating tsunami. This is the second Emmy win in a row for NHK, which won for Current Affairs in 2011.
 
CBC’s Haiti’s Orphans: One Year After the Earthquake, won the Current Affairs category. The report follows the hope and heartache of three orphaned children and the caring adults in Canada and Haiti determined to help them.
