ANDY KAPLAN, PRESIDENT, SONY PICTURES TELEVISION NETWORKS, NAMED CHAIR FOR THE 45TH INTERNATIONAL EMMY® AWARDS GALA

NEW YORK, August 24, 2017 Sony Pictures Television Networks president Andy Kaplan, a Director of the International Academy, will serve as Gala Chair for the 45th International Emmy® Awards, which will take place on Monday, November 20, 2017 in New York City. Kaplan oversees Sony Pictures Television Networks’ distinguished portfolio of popular branded entertainment channels reaching nearly two billion subscribers around the world.

Kaplan will preside over the Gala, during which the International Academy will recognize programming in eleven program categories and present Special Awards to Kevin Spacey and Emilio Azcárraga Jean. Spacey is a two-time Academy Award winning actor and producer and star of hit series House of Cards. Azcárraga is Chairman of the Board, President and CEO of Grupo Televisa, the world’s largest Spanish-language content provider and Mexico’s largest broadcaster and pay television provider. Spacey will receive the Founders Emmy and Azcárraga will receive the Directorate Emmy.

Maz Jobrani to Host the 45th International Emmy® Awards

New York, August 10, 2017 – The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced today that comedian and actor Maz Jobrani, known worldwide for his stereotype bending jokes and riffs about living as an Iranian immigrant in the United States, will host the International Emmy® Awards Gala, on Monday, November 20, 2017 in New York.

Jobrani has brought his unique talents to a wide variety of programs & live performances both in the United States and around the world. He has done everything from traditional stand-up comedy to more serious TED talks, collaborating on NPR radio as a regular panelist to writing a bestselling book. A founding member of the “Axis of Evil” comedy tour, he has also performed for the king of Jordan and at the White House for Michelle Obama. Jobrani’s comedy specials have aired on Comedy Central and Showtime and his latest special, “Immigrant,” premiered on Netflix, August 1.

“Maz Jobrani has been entertaining American and international audiences by using comedy to address prejudice and stereotypes around the world,” said Bruce L. Paisner, President & CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. “We look forward to having his unique brand of humor headlining our awards on November 20.”

Jobrani added: “I’m super excited to host the International Emmys. Although given our new immigration laws I’m not sure how many nominees will actually make it.”

Over 1000 international media and entertainment executives convene in New York each year for the International Emmy® Awards Gala. In addition to the presentation of Emmy®Awards for programming, the Academy will present two special awards.As previously announced two-time Academy Award winning actor and producer, Kevin Spacey willreceive the 2017 International Emmy® Founders Award and Emilio Azcárraga Jean, Chairman of the Board, President and CEO of Grupo Televisa will receive the 2017 International Emmy® Directorate Award.

2017 INTERNATIONAL EMMY® AWARDS NOMINEES FOR NEWS & CURRENT AFFAIRS ANNOUNCED

7 First Ever Emmy Nomination for Israel’s i24NEWS and First Current Affairs Nomination for Sweden’s SVT

 

New York, August 7, 2017 – The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences today announced the nominees for the 2017 News & Current Affairs categories. Winners will be announced in New York on October 5, at Jazz at Lincoln Center. The International Emmy winners will be recognized alongside their American news and documentary peers.

The 8 Nominees span 6 countries on 3 continents. The countries are: Brazil, Israel, Malaysia, the Philippines, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

Israeli network i24NEWS has garnered its first ever Emmy nomination in the News category for its French language coverage of the Republican National Convention. Swedish Public Broadcaster, SVT scored its first nomination in the Current Affairs category for an investigation into the Panama Papers. Additionally, Brazil’s TV Globo is nominated in both categories.
