New York, November 23, 2020 – The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the winners of the 48th International Emmy® Awards today during a live ceremony hosted by actor Richard Kind in New York City.  

“Once again, the International Emmy winners demonstrate the universal power of great television, which brings us together and breaks down cultural boundaries and pandemic induced limitations,” said International Academy President & CEO, Bruce Paisner. “Although we miss our annual Gala in New York, we are proud to bring these programs and performances to our global stage, and we congratulate the winners on their outstanding achievement.” 
 
The International Academy presented 1 Special Award and 12 Emmys across 11 categories, due to a tie in the Non-English Language U.S. Primetime category. 
 
 
The cast of presenters included a mix of New York based and international actors and on-air talent. The New York based cast included: Kelsey Asbille (Fargo, Yellowstone), Paul Blackthorne (Arrow), Tituss Burgess (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Tim Daly (Madam Secretary), Naturi Naughton (Power), Tom Payne (Prodigal Son, The Walking Dead), Nico Tortorella (Younger, The Walking Dead: The World Beyond) Indira Varma (For Life, Game of Thrones). The international cast included: Haluk Bilginer from Istanbul, Turkey (2019 International Emmy® Winner and star of Ay Yapim’s Persona), Caroline Peters from Cologne NRW, Germany (Actress and Writer), Caua Reymond from Rio, Brazil (star of Globo’s Iron Island), Miguel Angel Silvestre from Madrid, Spain (HBO’s 30 Coins) and Fu Xiaotian from Hong Kong, PR China, (Host of Phoenix’s Talk with World Leaders). 
 
13-year-old Billy Barratt accepted the Emmy for Best Performance by an Actor for his role as Ray in Responsible Child. He is the youngest actor ever nominated and winning in this category. 
 
Glenda Jackson won the Emmy for Best Performance by an Actress for her role as Maud in Elizabeth is Missing
 
Drama Series Delhi Crime garnered the first ever Emmy for a program from India.

NEW YORK GOVERNOR ANDREW M. CUOMO TO RECEIVE 2020 INTERNATIONAL EMMY® FOUNDERS AWARD

International Academy to Recognize his Effective Use of Television During the Pandemic

New York, November 20, 2020Governor Andrew M. Cuomo of New York will receive this year’s International Emmy® Founders Award, in recognition of his leadership during the Covid-19 pandemic and his masterful use of television to inform and calm people around the world. The Emmy® will be presented to Governor Cuomo, also a New York Times best-selling author, during the Academy’s live,  International Emmy® Awards show streaming at 11 AM ET, on the Academy’s website www.iemmys.tv, on November 23.

“The Governor’s 111 daily briefings worked so well because he effectively created television shows, with characters, plot lines, and stories of success and failure,” said International Academy President & CEO, Bruce L. Paisner.  “People around the world tuned in to find out what was going on, and New York tough became a symbol of the determination to fight back.”

The Founder’s Award is presented to an individual or organization who “crosses cultural boundaries to touch our common humanity”. Prior recipients include Vice President Al Gore, Oprah Winfrey, and Steven Spielberg.

On March 2, 2020, New York Governor Cuomo conducted a media briefing from Manhattan to inform and educate New Yorkers and the public at large about the coronavirus outbreak that was just starting to be recognized as a massive public health threat. That 12-minute introduction, part of a 34-minute session with other state leaders, was the first of 111 consecutive daily briefings for New Yorkers and the wider world about the grim progress of the worst pandemic to hit the United States in a century. The briefings were carried live by New York’s local TV stations, nationally on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News and other news outlets in the U.S. and around the world.  The last “daily” briefing was held on June 19, 2020. These daily communications have drawn a total of 59 million viewers.

Andrew M. Cuomo is the 56th Governor of New York. After the 1996 election, President Clinton appointed him to serve as HUD Secretary. In 2006, he was elected New York State Attorney General. In 2010 he was elected Governor and re-elected twice in 2014 and 2018.

INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY ANNOUNCES HOST RICHARD KIND & PRESENTER LINE-UP

New York, November 16, 2020The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences today announced its Host and Presenter line-up for the International Emmy® Awards ceremony streaming live on Monday, November 23rd at 11 am ET on the Academy’s website www.iemmys.tv

TV, Film & Stage Actor Richard Kind will host live from New York City. “How lucky am I to be the first Biden-era American representative to the International Emmys!” said Kind about hosting.

He will be joined by a cast of New York based and international presenters.

Richard Kind is a Drama Desk Award Winner and Tony Nominee for the Broadway Hit, The Big Knife, Kind is an accomplished stage, screen and television actor who continues to redefine the term character actor. Kind appeared in the Academy Award Winning Best Picture, Argo for director Ben Affleck and starred as ‘Bing Bong’ in the hit Pixar Film, Inside Out. He played a memorable, heartbreaking role in Clint Eastwood’s Hereafter. Apart from his infamous roles on Spin City and Mad About You, Kind was also a series regular on the acclaimed HBO series, Luck as well as three seasons on Amazon’s Red Oaks. He has guest starred on many shows, and has had recurring roles on Fox’s Gotham, Showtime’s I’m Dying Up Here, and has appeared numerous times on Young Sheldon, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Law & Order: Special Victim’s Unit. On stage, Kind has starred in Guys and Dolls in London, the smash hit Broadway musical The Producers, The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife, Candide, and Bounce, among others. Kind started his career in Chicago with the Practical Theatre Company, founded by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Brad Hall and Gary Kroeger.
