2016 International Emmy® Award Nominees Span 15 Countries

New York, September 26, 2016 – Nominations for the 2016 International Emmy®Awards were announced today by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. There are 40 Nominees across 10 categories and 15 countries. The full list of Nominees follows this release. Winners will be announced at a black-tie Ceremony on November 21, 2016 at the Hilton New York Hotel.

Nominees come from: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, France, Germany, Japan, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates and the United States.

“The International Emmy competition is the pinnacle for recognizing excellence in television around the world,” said Bruce L. Paisner,President and CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. “We congratulate the 2016 Nominees and welcome them to our global stage.”

In addition to the presentation of the International Emmy® Awards for programming and performances, the Academy will present two special awards. Shonda Rhimes, the Writer, Executive Producer and Creator behind global hit series Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder and The Catch will receive the International Emmy Founders Award. Maria Rørbye Rønn, the Chief Executive Officer & Director General of Danish Broadcasting Corporation, which pioneered and drove the success of Nordic Noir drama around the world will receive the International Emmy Directorate Award.

This year’s Gala partners are: Phoenix Satellite Television, TV Globo, Dori Media Group, Ernst & Young, Deluxe, Miptv, Sofitel Hotels and Variety.

SKY NEWS AND ITN DISPATCHES WIN INTERNATIONAL EMMYS® FOR NEWS & CURRENT AFFAIRS

New York, September 21, 2016 – The 2016 International Emmy for News was presented tonight to Sky News Migration Crisis (United Kingdom). The Emmy for current affairs was presented to Dispatches-Escape from Isis. (United Kingdom). The International Emmys were presented by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in conjunction with the US News Emmys during a ceremony which took place at Lincoln Center, in New York City.

Sky News Migration Crisis produced by Sky News, won the News category. This story covers the perilous journey of a group of migrants from Turkey to Greece, with exclusive insight from the Sky crew live on the Hungary-Serbia border as refugees and riot police clash.

Dispatches-Escape from Isis produced by ITN Productions/ Ronachan Films / Evan Williams Productions / Mediadante won the Current Affairs category. This special exposed the brutal treatment of the estimated 4 million women living under the rule of the Islamic State and shows the extraordinary courage of an underground network trying to save women and children held as slaves by ISIS.

“Extraordinary and disheartening events in the Middle East have set a new bar for courageous journalism and for the dedicated reporters, cameramen and crews who pour themselves into this work. We congratulate them,” said Bruce L. Paisner, President & CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

The International Academy will announce the Nominees for 10 other program categories on September 26 and its 7 Kid’s categories at Mipcom, in Cannes, France on October 17.

Winners for Arts Programming; Best Performance by an Actress; Best Performance by an Actor; Comedy; Documentary; Drama Series; Non-English Language US Primetime Program; Non-Scripted Entertainment; Telenovela and TV Movie/Mini-Series will receive their awards at the 44th International Emmy Awards Gala, at the Hilton Hotel in New York City, on Monday, November 21.
