ALAN CUMMING TO HOST INTERNATIONAL EMMY® AWARDS GALA IN NEW YORK, ON NOVEMBER 21

NEW YORK, August 15, 2016 – The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced today that world renowned Theater, Film and Television actor Alan Cumming will host the International Emmy® Awards Gala, on Monday, November 21, 2016 in New York.

“Alan Cumming is a master artist, actor, author, and entertainer who for the last thirty years, has been continually taking his craft to new heights. We are proud to have this multi-talented performer as our host this year.” said Bruce L. Paisner, President & CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.”

Alan Cumming is beyond eclectic. He was an award-winning Hamlet, and he had his own talk show. He was a tour de force solo Macbeth and he voiced a Smurf, twice. He shot a video portrait with Robert Wilson, and recorded a duet with Liza Minnelli. He made back to back films with Stanley Kubrick and the Spice Girls. He appeared in a Jay Z video and he wrote a #1 New York Times bestselling memoir. Alan Cumming trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. After leaving the Academy he quickly found himself celebrated in his homeland for both his television work (including the Scottish soap Take The High Road) and his stand-up comedy (the legendary Victor and Barry, which he wrote and performed with drama school pal Forbes Masson).

In 1998, Cabaret opened on Broadway and Alan was instantly embraced by New York City, and heralded for his stunning performance as the Master of Ceremonies. He won The Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics’ Circle, NY Press, Theater World, FANY and New York Public Advocate’s awards for his work, but for him the biggest prize was finding his new home.

His many television appearances include Sex and the City, Frasier, The L Word, Reefer Madness and Tin Man. He played Eli Gold in seven seasons of the CBS series The Good Wife, for which he has received multiple Golden Globe, Emmy, SAG, Critic’s Circle and Satellite Awards nominations. Alan’s activism and passion for various civil rights and sex education causes has earned him many humanitarian awards from AMFAR, Human Rights Campaign, the Matthew Shepard Foundation, GLAAD and the Trevor Project, to name but a few.

Over 1000 international media and entertainment executives convene in New York each year for the International Emmy® Awards Gala. In addition to the presentation of Emmy® Awards for programming, the Academy will present two special awards.As previously announced Shonda Rhimes, the Writer, Executive Producer and Creator behind global hit series Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, Private Practice and How to Get Away with Murder will receive the 2016 International Emmy® Founders Award and Maria Rørbye Rønn, the Chief Executive Officer & Director General of Danish Broadcasting Corporation, which pioneered and drove the success of Nordic Noir drama around the world, will receive the 2016 International Emmy® Directorate Award.

This year’s Gala partners are: Phoenix Satellite Television, Globo, Dori Media Group, Semba, Ernst & Young, Deluxe, Mipcom, Sofitel Luxury Hotels and Variety.

2016 International Emmy® Awards Nominees for News & Current Affairs Announced

8 Nominees Span 6 Countries On 3 Continents
Al Jazeera English and TV Globo Are Nominated in Both Categories

 

NEW YORK, August 9, 2016 – The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences today announced the nominees for the 2016 News & Current Affairs categories. Winners will be announced in New York on September 21, at a Ceremony at Rose Hall, at Lincoln Center. The international Emmy winners will be recognized alongside their American news and documentary peers.

The 8 Nominees span 6 countries on 3 continents. The countries are: Brazil, Germany, Malaysia, Qatar, Russia and the United Kingdom.

Al Jazeera English and TV Globo are nominated in both categories this year.

“In this volatile world where anybody can comment on serious world events on social media platforms, true journalistic voices and investigations are more crucial than ever.” said Bruce L.
