2018 INTERNATIONAL EMMY® AWARDS WINNERS FOR NEWS & CURRENT AFFAIRS ANNOUNCED

“SKY NEWS-ROHINGYA CRISIS” WINS INTERNATIONAL EMMY® FOR NEWS

“WHITE RIGHT: MEETING THE ENEMY” WINS INTERNATIONAL EMMY® FOR CURRENT AFFAIRS

GIVING FILMMAKER DEEYAH KHAN HER SECOND EMMY® IN THIS CATEGORY

New York, October 1, 2018 – The 2018 International Emmy for News was presented tonight to Rohingya Crisis (Sky News, United Kingdom), a story which covers the dire conditions and the suffering of the stranded Rohingya people, exposing what the Myanmar government has denied.

The International Emmy for Current Affairs was presented to White Right: Meeting the Enemy (Fuuse Films and ITV, United Kingdom), an in-depth report by Muslim filmmaker Deeyah Khan as she meets US neo-Nazis and white nationalists face to face, and attends America’s biggest and most violent far-right rally in recent years.

This is the second Emmy for Khan in this category. Her film Banaz: An Honour Killing, which chronicles the brutal ‘honour’ killing of Banaz Mahmod, a young British Kurdish woman in suburban London, won the International Emmy For Current Affairs in 2013.

Both International Emmys were presented by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences during a ceremony in conjunction with the US News Emmys which took place at Jazz at Lincoln Center, in New York City.
While presenting the Emmys, Bruce Paisner, President & CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences said: “Tonight’s winning programs illustrate once again the absolute urgency and necessity of free and unrestricted reporting. We congratulate the winning reporters and crews behind these outstanding reports for having the courage to shine their lens on horrific human tragedy and violent extremism at the risk of their own safety.”
