2014 INTERNATIONAL EMMY® AWARDS WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Winning Programs & Performances Span 8 Countries: Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Germany, The Netherlands, Sweden, The United Kingdom and The United States

 

NEW YORK, November 24 2014 – The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the winners of the 42nd International Emmy® Awards tonight at a Gala event attended by over 1000 international television professionals and hosted by British Comedian and writer Matt Lucas at the New York Hilton.

2 Special Awards and 10 Emmy statues were presented by the International Academy during the evening. Winners span 8 countries: Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom. For the first time a US primetime program produced 50% or more in a language other than English, won an Emmy. This will be a permanent category moving forward.

Mad Men stars Christina Hendricks and John Slattery presented the International Emmy Founders Award to Mad Men creator, Matthew Weiner.

Rupert Murdoch, Chairman and CEO of 21st Century Fox and News Corporation presented the International Emmy Directorate Award to Roberto Irineu Marinho Chairman & CEO, Grupo Globo. They were joined on the stage by Brazilian actors Milton Gonçalvez and Gloria Pires.

Mad Men stars Christina Hendricks and John Slattery will present the International Emmy Founders Award to Matthew Weiner.

NEW YORK, October 23, 2014 – The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced today that Matt Lucas, who has been entertaining audiences worldwide both as an actor and writer on television (Come Fly with Me, Little Britain) and film (Alice in Wonderland, Bridesmaids) will host the International Emmy® Awards Gala, on November 24, 2014 at the Hilton New York Hotel.
 
“Matt Lucas is one of the most talented comedic performers and writers of his generation and we’re delighted to have him headlining the International Emmy® Awards this year as our host.” said Bruce L. Paisner, President & CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
 
Matt Lucas reaped massive success in Shooting Stars, Come Fly With Me and, of course, the smash hit series Little Britain. He went on to play Tweedledum and Tweedledee in Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland (and the forthcoming Alice Through The Looking Glass) and Kristen Wiig’s flatmate in the award-winning film Bridesmaids. He also played the lead role of Franklyn in Jonas Åkerlund’s Small Apartments. In 2011 he fulfilled a lifetime ambition to appear in Les Miserables at London’s Queens Theatre. The same year he set up John Stanley Productions to make shows including The Matt Lucas Awards and his brand new 6-part visual comedy series Pompidou.

2014 INTERNATIONAL EMMY® AWARDS NOMINEES SPAN 19 COUNTRIES INCLUDING THE UNITED STATES FOR THE FIRST TIME

Cannes/MIPCOM, October 13, 2014: Nominations for the 2014 International Emmy® Awards were announced today by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences at a Press Conference at Mipcom. There are 40 nominees across 10 categories, and for the first time, the International Academy is recognizing programs from the United States. The full list of Nominees follows this release. Winners will be announced at a black-tie Ceremony on November 24, 2014 at the Hilton New York Hotel.

Third International Emmy® Kids Awards Nominees Announced

Winners to Receive Awards on February 20, 2015 in New York City

New York, October 8, 2014 – Nominations for the International Emmy® Kids Awards were announced today by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. There are 23 nominees in 6 categories. The full list of Nominees follows this release. Winners will receive their Emmys at the third International Emmy® Kids Awards, on February 20, 2015 in New York City. 
 
Nominations span 17 countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, France, Germany, Japan, Spain, Sweden, South Korea, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
 
“The geographic spread and the wealth of topics addressed in this year’s nominated programs attests to the vibrancy and quality of children’s television throughout the world.” said Bruce L. INTERNATIONAL EMMY® KIDS AWARDS NOMINEES ANNOUNCED

 
WINNERS TO RECEIVE AWARDS ON FEBRUARY 10, 2014 IN NEW YORK CITY 

 
 – Nominations for the International Emmy® Kids Awards were announced today by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. There are 24 nominees in 6 categories. The full list of Nominees follows this release. Winners will receive their Emmys at the second International Emmy® Kids Awards, on February 10, 2014 in New York City.

 
Nominations span 14 countries: Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Sweden, South Korea, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. The International Emmy® Kids’ competition has three rounds of judging over a period of 6 months.
 
“Our first International Emmy® Kids Awards was a great success last year, with over 300 children’s television industry professionals in attendance.” said Bruce L. Paisner, President & CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. “The International Academy is pleased to have created these new awards for kids programming, which, like the other Emmy® ceremonies, are the premiere global platform for recognizing and promoting excellence in television.”
 
The International Emmy® Kids Awards presenting partners are: Ernst & Young, Hasbro Studios, Shaw Rocket Fund, SVT/DRTV, TV Kids and WDR. The ceremony will take place at Pier 60 at Chelsea Piers.

ITN FOR CHANNEL 4 NEWS’ (UK) SYRIA’S DESCENT WINS INTERNATIONAL EMMY® FOR NEWS. CBC’s (CANADA)THE FIFTH ESTATE: MADE IN BANGLADESH WINS INTERNATIONAL EMMY® FOR CURRENT AFFAIRS

New York, September 30, 2014 – The 2014 International Emmys for News & Current Affairs were presented tonight to Syria’s Descent and the fifth estate: Made In Bangladesh. The International Emmys were presented by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in conjunction with the US News Emmys during a ceremony which took place at Lincoln Center, in New York City.

Syria’s Descent produced by ITN for Channel 4 News, won the News category. This story charts Syria’s descent into hopelessness with searing coverage from Aleppo, Damascus, Ras-al-Ayn and Zaatari refugee camps, as the brutal civil war entered its third year.

The fifth estate: Made In Bangladesh produced by Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) won the Current Affairs category. This report investigates the collapse of the Rana Plaza factory in Dhaka, during which 1,000 garment workers died, and exposes the inhumane work conditions imposed by local contractors hired by major North American clothing brands.

“In these dangerous and unsettled times, the need for high quality news has never been so great.” said Bruce L. Paisner, President & CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. “These two programs capture two strands of critical news reporting today: news of war, and news of people who suffer, even absent war.”

The International Academy will announce the Nominees for its 6 kids categories, on October 8 and the Nominees for 10 other program categories, at Mipcom, in Cannes, France on October 13.

Winners for Arts Programming; Best Performance by an Actress; Best Performance by an Actor; Comedy; Documentary; Drama Series; Non-English Language US Primetime Program; Non-Scripted Entertainment; Telenovela and TV Movie/Mini-Series will receive their awards at the 42nd International Emmy Awards Gala, at the Hilton Hotel in New York City, on Monday, November 25.

2014 International Emmy® Awards Current Affairs & News Nominees Announced

8 NOMINEES SPAN 8 COUNTRIES ON 4 CONTINENTS: ARGENTINA, BRAZIL, CANADA, CHINA, ROMANIA, RUSSIA, THE PHILIPPINES AND THE UNITED KINGDOM.

New York, August 12, 2014 – The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences today announced the nominees for the 2014 Current Affairs and News categories. Winners will be announced in New York on September 30, at a Ceremony at Jazz at Lincoln Center. The international winners will be recognized alongside their American news and documentary peers.

The 8 Nominees span 8 countries on 4 continents. The countries are: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, Romania, Russia, The Philippines and The United Kingdom.

New York, July 30th, 2014 – Roberto Irineu Marinho, the Chairman & CEO of Globo Group of Companies­­­­­­-Brazil’s leading media and entertainment conglomerate-will receive the 2014 International Emmy® Directorate Award. Marinho will accept the Emmy, in New York, on November 24th-as TV Globo kicks off its 50th anniversary celebrations at the International Emmy Awards Gala.

As previously announced the Academy will also present its International Emmy Founders Award to Matthew Weiner, the creator of Mad Men.

Matthew Weiner to Receive 2014 International Emmy® Founders Award

MATTHEW WEINER TO RECEIVE 2014 INTERNATIONAL EMMY® FOUNDERS AWARD AT INTERNATIONAL EMMY® AWARDS IN NEW YORK, ON NOVEMBER 24TH

New York, June 2, 2014 – The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences will present the 2014 International Emmy® Founders Award to Matthew Weiner, the creator, Executive Producer, writer and director of the acclaimed drama series Mad Men. Academy President & CEO, Bruce L. Paisner, announced today that Weiner will accept the Award at the 42nd International Emmy® Awards Gala, on Monday, November 24, 2014, in New York City.

“With Mad Men, Matthew Weiner redefined period television and created a global cultural phenomenon that has dramatically changed the television landscape,” said Paisner. “We look forward to honoring his creative talent with our Founders Award, a few weeks before the final episodes of this great series.”

Weiner has been nominated for a total of 11 Emmys for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series.  He won the award for the series pilot, as well as for the Second Season episode, Meditations in an Emergency, with Kater Gordon, and for the Third Season episode, Shut the Door. Have a Seat. with Erin Levy. Most recently, Weiner won the WGA award for Best Episodic for the Season Five episode, The Other Woman, with Semi Chellas. Shujaaz.FM Reloaded (Well Told Story) a multi-media communications platform that inspires young people to become entrepreneurs and raise awareness about challenges they encounter in their daily lives, won the Children & Young People category for the second time. Shujaaz.FM, the first installment of the show, won in 2012.

#7DaysLater (Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) / Ludo Studio P/L) a digital crowd-sourced comedy series that challenges Australia’s most popular YouTube creators, won the Fiction category.

D-Day: As It Happens (Windfall Films and Digit London for Channel 4) a 24 hour event, in which viewers could follow the lives of seven real people in 1944, across TV, the web, and Twitter, in real time, won the Non-Fiction category.

On the anniversary of D-Day, two hour-long TV programs bookended a 24 hour event, in which viewers could follow the lives of seven real people in 1944, across TV, the web, and Twitter, in real time. New research involving thousands of hours of analysis, made it possible to put names to anonymous faces and follow them throughout the day. Footage was played at the precise moment it was filmed, on TV and online. One thousand rich media updates including archive footage, stills, documents and testimonies, were posted to a specially developed, mobile-accessible, website. Every archive film was geo-tagged and the route taken by each of the characters meticulously plotted.

2014 International Digital Emmy® Awards Nominees Announced

YOUTUBE TO RECEIVE PIONEER PRIZE

NEW YORK, February 24, 2014 – The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced today the 2014 International Digital Emmy® Awards Nominees, and Pioneer Prize recipient. The Emmys and the Pioneer Prize will be presented on Monday, April 7 at MIPTV in Cannes.
 
There are 12 nominees in 3 categories, Digital Program: Children & Young People; Digital Program: Fiction and Digital Program: Non-Fiction. The full list of Nominees from: Australia, Brazil, Canada, Israel, Japan, Kenya, Portugal, Singapore, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, follows this release.
 
The International Academy will present the 2014 Pioneer Prize to YouTube for its innovative contributions to the field of digital entertainment. Alex Carloss, Head of Entertainment, will accept on behalf of his company. With one billion monthly users, YouTube is currently localized in 61 countries across 61 languages. 80% of its traffic comes from outside the US.

The Emmys and Pioneer Prize will be presented at the International Digital Emmy Awards ceremony, sponsored by the Bell Fund of Canada for the second year in a row, during MIPTV’s Opening night festivities at the Martinez Hotel. Over 200 international executives across all sectors of the mobile, entertainment, and internet industries, are expected to attend.

“This year’s nominated programs represent every inhabited continent on earth,” said International Academy President & CEO, Bruce L. Paisner. “How fitting that we are presenting our 2014 Pioneer Prize to YouTube, a major agent of growth and distribution of digital content throughout the world since its creation in 2005.

All nominated programs will be showcased at MIPCube, during a special session, sponsored by the Bell Fund of Canada and designed to give MIPTV participants the opportunity to see excerpts of the programs and meet the nominees.

Israeli President at International Academy Day

Event Designed for International Academy Members & Their Guests To Take Place June 11-14th, 2014

NEW YORK, January 21, 2014 – The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced today that International Academy Day in Jerusalem will feature a line-up of high-level industry and political figures, including President Shimon Peres and Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat. The event will take place June 11-14 and is hosted by Dori Media Group. Other key participants will be announced shortly.

“International Academy Day is a one of a kind event which presents the media industry of a specific region to our Members”, said International Academy President & CEO Bruce L. Paisner. “Beyond that, we also try to give our Members access to key political leaders and major cultural events and we will certainly be doing that in Jerusalem this coming June.”

International Academy Day in Jerusalem will kick off with an Opening Dinner on June 11 with President Shimon Peres and a dinner hosted by Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat on June 12.

Industry session highlights include a panel on the impact of the media on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict at the Peres Center for Peace, featuring key political figures from both the Palestinian and Israeli sides; and insights by leaders from high-tech startups on the latest innovations combining media and technology.

Members will also be invited to an open-air performance of La Traviata by the Israeli Opera at the foot of Masada mountain and an evening with leading scientists in the fields of brain research and genetics from the Weizmann Institute.
